Who Is John Rechy?

Among those members who were, arrested, and able to escape, was John Rechy. John Rechy is a Mexican American novelist and essayist. In his novels he has written extensively about queer culture in Los Angeles and wider America among other subject matters, and is also among the pioneers of of modern Gay and Lesbian Literature. In his 1963 novel, City of Night, Rechy chronicled the events on the Main Street "gay ghetto."
